Free Katakhali canal

Can you imagine by looking at this picture that the place was actually part of a canal? Yes, it is the 200-year-old Katakhali Khal (canal) at Karatia union under Tangail district. Saadat University College is very near from the spot. This canal was connected to the Karatia Haat (village market) which is the second biggest cloth market of the country. It used to play a vital role in the trade and business of the area. But that is now history.

In 2012, a number of reports were published both in the print and the electronic media on this illegal encroachment. Hope Tangail administration will take urgent steps to free this canal from illegal occupation.
