Four of a Hindu family stabbed, house set afire

Hired goons allegedly of a land grabber set fire to the house of a Hindu family and stabbed its four members at Shafirhat village in Patgram upazila yesterday morning.
Police arrested one Abdul Malek, 47, son of late Nazrul Islam, and Mahosena Begum alias Manira, 39, wife of Aminur Rahman, of the village after the incident.
The injured are Pushpa Rani Sen, 68, wife of late Debendra Nath Sen and her two sons Shyamol Chandra Sen, 45, and Kamol Chandra Sen, 38, and Shyamol's wife Dipali Rani Sen, 30.
Of them, seriously injured Pushpa Rani was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital while the rest to the upazila health complex.
A gang of 25, allegedly led by Abul Hossain, swooped on the house of Pushpa Rani and set it on fire around 9:30pm in a bid to grab her two bighas of land, said the victims.
As the family members tried to resist the attackers, they stabbed the four, leaving them injured, they said.
Police said Abul Hossain and his five brothers Rafiqul Islam, Aminur Rahman, Alibar Rahman, Ataur Rahman and Anwarul Islam had a dispute with the Hindu family the ownership of the land for long.
Pushpa Rani then filed a case in this connection. On September 4 in 2012, the Hindu family started living there after a court delivered its verdict in favour of Pushpa Rani.
The attackers must be brought to the book, said superintendent of police TM Mozahidul Islam.
Preparation to file a case was going on in connection with the attack an hour before filing of this report at 6:30pm yesterday.
