Five Natore BNP men placed on remand
A Natore court yesterday placed five BNP leaders and activists on a two-day remand in a case for killing union parishad (UP) chairman Fazle Rahman Fanu.
The accused are Ibrahim Khalil Fatik, 54, organising secretary of Singra upazila unit of BNP, party activists Haidar Rashid Ripon, 31, Shah Alam, 22, Shamsul Alam, 47, and Abdul Karim, 36.
Police produced them in the court of Senior Juducial Magistrate AQM Zulkar Naeem, seeking a five-day remand. The judicial magistrate granted two days.
On March 24, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-5) personnel arrested the five accused in the case from Baghmara area of Rajshahi with arms and ammunition.
Fazle Rahman Fanu, 60, chairman of Kalom Union Parishad (UP) under Singra upazila, was stabbed to death in Shaoil area in the upazila at around 12:30pm on January 18.
Local AL leaders claimed that a gang of 10 to 12 criminals led by Kalom union Swechchhasebok Dal President Karim Killed Fanu.
On January 19, Fanu's brother Mainul Haque Chunnu filed a murder case with Singra Police Station, accusing 27 people.
