fish and co
I was twenty-some years old and in London when I ate fish and chips for the first time. Queuing up for this much talked about British delicacy, I was triumphant when I finally had the package in my hand, wrapped in newspaper. I did what the others did, and sprinkled a little salt and a bit of malt vinegar on the golden brown fillet and massive portion of fries. I remember thinking that it was the most delicious piece of fish I had ever tasted.
Since then, I have travelled the world extensively, and have had the good fortune of experiencing different, exotic cuisines from diverse areas of the world.
When eating out, I tend to always opt for a good seafood item in the menu; whenever 'Fish & Chips' appear, I order them, and to my utter disappointment, I am yet to re-create that first bite from that chilly night in London.
I've been seeing the name 'Fish and Co.' pop up on my Facebook feed lately; I read a few posts of people grumbling about the long lines and waiting for tables. Naturally, I gathered friends and off we went one afternoon, around 2.30pm.
The place was about 75 percent full, and we were lucky to have gotten one of the tables near the lovely French windows, which decorate all three walls of the spacious restaurant. The natural light is infused with a cheerful ambience and clean, contemporary design.
Everything except pasta and dessert are served in distinctive metal skillets; silver ware and napkins are arranged in tiny iron buckets, and two elaborate drink menus offer a sensational list of mocktails, floats and shakes.
Items like the Pink Passion, Lycee Mojito, and Candy Crush, are made with fresh ingredients, and are as good as the presentation. The traditional Mojito is irresistibly fresh and punchy with plenty of fresh mint floating on top, and served in a highball glass; delightful alongside seafood.
Tasty starters like the prawn fritters, blue mussels, fish nuggets, fillets, calamari, paella, and fries are served in medium to large portions, and ideal for family style sharing. The crispy calamari is exceptionally good, and in my opinion can stand alone.
Of the five selections of fish and chips dishes, I ordered the 'New York'. It looked delectable, and in one swift movement of the fork, I was back in London.
I found my Fish & Chips, at home in Dhaka. The fish was flaky and white, incased in a light and crunchy batter that is fried to perfection.
