Today is the first death anniversary of eminent educationalist, diplomat and intellectual Prof Khan Sarwar Murshid.
On the occasion, wreaths will be placed at his grave at 3:00pm, a doa mahfil will be held and food will be distributed among the poor in Mirpur Intellectuals' Graveyard in the capital.
Friends, family and well-wishers are requested to attend and pray for the salvation of the departed soul, said his family members in a press release issued yesterday.
Born in 1924, Murshid was at the forefront of the Language Movement of 1952, the Mass Upsurge of 1969, the Six-Point Movement and the Liberation War of 1971.
During the Liberation War, he was a member of the planning commission of the Mujibnagar government in exile. Moreover, he was an adviser to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Tajuddin Ahmad.
In his illustrious diplomatic career, Murshid served as the Bangladesh high commissioner to Poland, Hungary and the former Czechoslovakia and was also appointed assistant secretary general of the Commonwealth in 1977.
He was the first chairman of Transparency International Bangladesh and was a trustee board member of the anti-graft watchdog till he passed away.
