BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called upon the government to step down immediately and hold a participatory election under a non-party arrangement.

“The only way out of the ongoing crisis is forming a government of the people’s representation through an inclusive election,” Fakhrul said in a press statement this evening.

He called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to give up her “ego and haughtiness” and show respect to the people’s opinion.

“The prime minister through her usual haughty tone has once again informed the nation that she does not care about the opinions of countrymen and the international community,” said the BNP leader.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said she would not bow down to any pressure at home or from abroad.

"Sheikh Hasina does not give in to any pressure whether it is internal or external. The country is ours … We will continue the work that needs to be done for the people," Hasina said while talking to journalists after she was sworn in as PM for the third time at Bangabhaban.
