Failed aspirants start hunger strike

A group of students who want to appear in Dhaka University admission tests for the second time went on an indefinite hunger strike on the Central Shaheed Minar premises yesterday demanding that the authorities withdraw the new rule that bars candidates from appearing in the tests more than once.
Before the hunger strike, they submitted a memorandum to the president, also the chancellor of the university.
Meanwhile, the university issued a statement saying according an earlier High Court order, the students cannot observe hunger strike on the Shaheed Minar premises without permission from the university authorities.
On behalf of President Abdul Hamid, the press secretary to the president received their memorandum.
A total of 40 admission seekers went on the hunger strike around 3:30pm.
The DU authorities on October 14 decided to allow only freshly passed HSC students to appear in its admission tests once, aiming to create an equal opportunity for all the aspirants.
