Ex-Hasina PS loses AL membership over candidature

The ruling Awami League today cancelled the membership of Awlad Hossain, a former personal secretary of party president Sheikh Hasina, from the party for submitting candidature to contest the parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.

Awlad submitted his nomination for Dhaka-4 constituency, a seat the AL has compromised for Jatiya Party candidate Abu Hossain Babla.

After the political understanding with the JP, AL's former ally in the Grand Alliance, AL aspirant for the constituency Sanjida Khanom, a former lawmaker, withdrew her candidacy in line with the party decision.

"Awlad has been removed from all the responsibilities including the primary membership of the party as he showed disregard to party central command by taking part in the 10th parliamentary elections as an independent candidate from Dhaka-4 constituency," reads a press notification issued by AL today.

Babla is a presidium member of the JP.
