Ex-BTCL MD granted bail for 8 weeks
The Supreme Court yesterday granted former managing director of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd SOM Kalim Ullah bail for eight weeks in a contempt of court case, clearing the way for his release from jail.
The High Court on December 4 sentenced him to four months' imprisonment for ignoring its order.
He was also fined Tk 1 lakh, in default, to suffer one more month in jail.
The HC delivered the verdict after hearing a contempt-of-court petition filed by Oxinnel Services Private Ltd, a telephone company, alleging that Kalim Ullah did not comply with a previous HC order that had asked him to refund OSPL Tk 72 lakh.
Yesterday, chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC stayed the HC verdict for eight weeks.
Justice Hasan Foyez Siddique, the chamber judge, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Kalim seeking stay on the HC verdict and bail.
The chamber judge also asked Kalim to file a leave to appeal petition with the SC against the verdict in eight weeks.
