Ershad cancels India visit
Jatiya Party Chairman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's special envoy HM Ershad yesterday postponed his scheduled visit to India.
Exact reasons behind the postponement of his five-day visit could not be known.
Talking to The Daily Star, JP Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu said, “Sir [Ershad] has been admitted to Combined Military Hospital in the capital as he has been suffering from chest pain. The doctors advised him to take bed-rest without movement. That's why his India visit has been postponed.”
But a close aide of the former autocratic ruler who was forced to step down from power in 1990 amid mass movement, said, “Sir [Ershad] did not go to India as the Eid is nearer. He will visit the neighbouring country after Eid.”
Ershad was scheduled to fly to New Delhi around 5:20pm yesterday to discuss bilateral issues with a number of leaders of the Indian government alongside looking for a school for his son Eric Ershad's admission there.
