Another dolphin found dead in Halda
Another dolphin was found dead in Halda river in Chattogram yesterday.
With this case, a total of 38 dolphins have been found dead in the Halda and its canals since September 2017.
Prof Manzoorul Kibria, a researcher on Halda river, said locals recovered the mammal from Azimerghat area in Raozan upazila around noon. He informed that the dolphin was 84-inch in length and weighed around 60 kg.
The reason behind the dolphin's death remains unknown since it had already decomposed. Locals buried it, he said.
The Gangetic dolphin, an endangered aquatic mammal, usually roams the Halda river -- the only natural fish breeding ground in the country. However, due to man-made disasters and rising salinity, their habitat is now under threat.
