DoE demolishes 7 brick kilns, fines five others in Rangpur

A mobile court of the Department of Environment (DoE) in Rangpur has demolished seven illegal brick kilns in two upazilas of Rangpur.

Owners of five other brick kilns were fined Tk 27 lakh during a drive by the mobile court, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports.

The court led by Dhaka District's Executive Magistrate Rozina Akter conducted the drive in the last two days.

The demolished brick kilns were MTB Bricks, SSB Bricks, and BBL Bricks in ​​Badarganj upazila; and TMM Bricks, ABH Bricks and RSB Bricks and JBF Bricks in Pirganj upazila.

Mezbabul Alam, deputy director of Rangpur DoE, said that the brick kilns have been running without obtaining environmental clearances and brick-burning licenses from the district administration.

Such mobile courts will continue against illegal brick kilns, he added.
