Girl killed in Nor’wester

A girl was killed and 15 people were injured as nor'westers lashed Parbatipur, Nawabganj and Birampur upazilas of Dinajpur and sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat Tuesday night.

Around 1,000 earthen houses in Dinajpur and another 200 in Lalmonirhat were damaged, said local sources, adding that   hailstorms damaged standing crops and uprooted mango and litchi plants.

According to locals, Umme Kulsum, 13, of Parbatipur's Maddhapara village, was killed as a wall of her house collapsed on her while she was sleeping during the storm.

Imam Zafar, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur Police Station, confirmed the incident.
