Firefighters still fighting to douse fire in the Sundarbans
The fire in Daser Bharani area of Sarankhola Range of East Sundarbans Forest Department has not been completely extinguished yet.
The fire is still burning and smoke is coming out from different places, said firefighters at 5:00pm today, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
The fire service and forest department were unable to say when the fire would be completely extinguished. However, there is strict surveillance on the area of the fire.
The fire broke out for the second time in the Sundarbans yesterday morning. Before that firefighters, after fighting the fire that first broke out on Monday for 30 hours, doused the fire on Tuesday.
"Three of our units are working to extinguish the blaze. But due to the thick layer of dry leaves in the Sundarbans and inaccessibility, we are facing difficulty in dousing the fire," said Md Golam Sarwar, assistant director of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence.
"If we cannot douse the fire by tonight, we will start work again tomorrow to bring it down," he added.
