‘Last time, association panel members were unfair to Pori Moni’
The campaign for the upcoming Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association elections is underway at the BFDC. Actors Misha Sawdagor and Zayed Khan are contesting from one panel, while actor Ilias Kanchan and actress Nipun are leading their own panel. Members of the two panels have been very vocal about their opinions of each other, which has come to everyone's notice.
Popular actress Pori Moni was supposed to participate in the elections from the Ilias-Nipun panel. However, she withdrew her name at the last minute, citing physical illness.
Noted actor Alamgir has made some explosive remarks in this regard. "Last time, association panel members were unfair to Pori Moni. There was injustice," he said.
An introductory meeting for the Ilias-Nipun panel was held on January 25, in the presence of all the candidates. Ilias Kanchan spoke at the event.
"It is being said that we have eliminated 184 members. But does the advisory council have the right to exclude anyone? This is the job of the executive council," he said.
"There is an attendance paper that we need to sign for interviews. Now, the executive council have tampered with this, stating that we took this decision, keeping their signatures. Lies have a limit."
Last year, the leading panel suspended Pori Moni's membership from the association, as a drug case was filed against her.
"Pori Moni is like our younger sister. She has faced many problems in recent times. Sadly, her membership was hastily suspended before the trial," said Ilias.
"If the trial was not over yet, how can the association suspend her membership? At the time, many claimed that I gave my opinion regarding her suspension. But the association did not consider any of my comments. Rather, they did the opposite of what I had said."
Incidentally, Ilias Kanchan is contesting for the post of President in the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association elections this time. Voting will continue till January 28, from 8 am to 4 pm.
