Kishwar narrates family's fond recollections of Afghanistan
Kishwar Chowdhury, the Bangladeshi-Australian chef who won millions of hearts by participating in the hugely popular show MasterChef Australia, has narrated her family's recollection of the once beautiful Afghanistan.
"The tragedy that unfolded last week in Afghanistan, took my mother back to the time her family fled to Kabul," reads a recent Facebook post by Kishwar which includes a video showing her baking a Babka.
As she bakes, she describes how her mother was a teenager when she lived in Pakistan's Islamabad.
Kishwar's maternal grandparents had to flee to Afghanistan's Kabul to escape persecution by Pakistani military during the Liberation War in 1971.
"My mother describes the months in Afghanistan amongst the happiest in her life," she says.
She describes her mother's recollection of the beautiful and smart women of Kabul in early 1970s who were writers, engineers and doctors.
"Like millions around the world, I pray for Afghanistan's return to better days. And in the meantime, help how I can," reads the post.
