Chris Brown accused of rape, victim demands USD 20 million in damages
A woman has filed a lawsuit against Grammy-winning American singer Chris Brown for allegedly drugging and raping her. The alleged assault reportedly took place on a yacht on December 30, 2020 in Miami, Florida.
The accuser, who has been referred to as 'Jane Doe' in the legal documents, has demanded 20 million USD in damages.
The documents list five separate allegations against Chris Brown: sexual assault, violation of the Gender Violence Statute, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and false imprisonment.
According to the woman, she was invited to a yacht owned by rapper and producer Diddy, and Brown had offered her drinks after she arrived on the yacht.
She went on to feel "a sudden, unexplained change in consciousness", and started to feel "disoriented, physically unstable, and started to fall in and out of sleep", before being led to a bedroom where Brown allegedly undressed and raped her.
Rumours also claim that Chris Brown had contacted the woman the next day, asking her to take emergency contraceptives.
While Diddy is yet to give any official statement to the media, Brown has taken to his official Instagram account, denying the charges.
I HOPE YALL SEE THIS PATTERN... whenever im releasing music or projects [sic]," he wrote on his Instagram story.
Brown's allegations of violence against women are not new. He was accused of rape in Paris in 2019, but was not prosecuted due to lack of proper evidence. Brown is also accused of beating up his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, in 2009.
