Easy bike drivers besiege BGB camp for 'torture of fellow'

Easy bike drivers besieged a BGB camp at Kulaghat in Sadar upazila yesterday, protesting alleged torture on a fellow driver by a BGB man on the road at Kulaghat Bazar in the morning.

The agitated easy bike drivers later withdrew the siege after both sides settled the matter at a meeting held in the local union parishad office.

Kulaghat Easy Bike Owners Association General Secretary Jobed Ali said the accused BGB man, Havilder Saiful Islam, apologized to injured easy bike driver Babu Mia at the meeting and gave him Tk 1,000 for his treatment.

The incident occurred while the border guards were searching for smuggled goods in the vehicles on the road.

“Havilder Saiful Islam beat me up while searching my bike on the road. I sustained injuries in the hands, legs and back,” driver Babul Mia said.

Contacted, Havilder Saiful said, “It was just a mistake. We settled the matter amicably”.

Refuting the allegation of torture on an easy bike driver by BGB men, Commanding Officer of 15 BGB Battalion Lt Col Shafiul Alam Khan said some easy-bike drivers blocked the road in a bid to prevent the border guards from performing their duties on the road.
