Don't reduce age
Child Rights Advocacy Coalition, a platform of NGOs, yesterday urged the government not to reduce the marriageable age of females from 18 to 16.
They also demanded that the government pass the Child Marriage Restraint Act-2014 before the end of this year.
They were addressing a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in the capital. The conference was arranged to brief about the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Children on November 20.
In observance of the day, the organisation has drawn up different programmes, including a photo exhibition and TV talk shows, said organisers.
Imranul Haque Chowdhury, chairperson of Shishu Adhikar Forum, read out the written statement on behalf of the platform.
