Distressed couple commit suicide in Kushtia

Utterly frustrated over poverty and family feud, a physically challenged day labourer and his wife ended their life by drinking poison at Ekuri village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district on Friday night.
The ill-fated couple, Buzur Ali, 40, and Rozina Khatun, 35, often quarrelled as Buzur, who worked as a day labourer, could not meet the family needs, the deceased couple's son Zamirul Islam, 11, told journalists.
"On Friday evening, my parents had an altercation. At one stage, my father threatened to take poison and my mother also told the same in reply.
“I was hearing everything, sitting outside the home, but I didn't care as the matter was a regular affair in our family.
"Around 9:00pm, I rushed to the room when my parents started crying for help. There I saw them fallen on each others arms. It seemed they had taken poison.
Hearing our scream, neighbours rushed in and tried to take my parents to Gangni Upazila Health Complex but they died within 20 minutes," Zamirul said.
Confirming the matter over phone to this correspondent yesterday morning, Akram Hossain, officer in charge of Gangni Police Station, said the two bodies were handed over to their family members after autopsy at Meherpur General Hospital.
