Discussion on Qayyum Chowdhury
To pay tribute to the recently deceased master artist Qayyum Chowdhury, Bikkhon organised a discussion at its Kachari Ferry Ghat office on the bank of Brahmaputra River on Friday morning.
Bikkhon is a study circle of Mymensingh Sahitya Sangsad.
The programme titled “Qayyum Chowdhury: Bangladesh through his eyes” was addressed by Qayyum's disciple Taposh Majumder, Professor Amirul Islam, graphics designer Masud Rana and artiste Poritosh Majumder.
Prof. Ali Idris presided over the discussion.
Professor Mosharraf Karim, Yazdani Quraishy Kajal, Tareq Salahuddin Mahmud, Swadheen Chowdhury, Horidas Thakur, Awlad Hossain, Abdul Kader Chowdhury, also paid tributes to the maestro at the programme, among others.
The speakers said Qayyum Chowdhury was not only an artist but was formidable creative force.
He sketched Bangladesh and its natural beauty and people in different mediums, reflective of his deep rooted love for the country, said the speakers.
In his drawings, Bengali people's struggle for survival was also depicted, added the speakers.
His ideals and contribution to the country's art should be remembered with deep respect and love, they concluded.
The convener of Bikkhon, poet Sajal Quraishy, presented the programme.
