Discussion on challenges before mass media today
Editors of leading national newspapers will hold a discussion today for sharing views on the challenges the mass media faces at the moment.
Titled "Challenges before Mass Media", the discussion will focus on issues arising out of the formulation of policies and laws and other government moves concerning mass media.
The programme, organised by Editors' Council, will begin at 3:30pm at the city's CIRDAP auditorium.
The body, formed in May last year and consisting of editors of the country's most circulated newspapers, aims at protecting press freedom, promoting journalism as a profession and strengthening the editorial institution.
Educationist Serajul Islam Chowdhury, lawyer Amir-Ul Islam, Ain O Salish Kendra's Executive Director Sultana Kamal, Prof Golam Rahman, Vice-President of Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh AK Azad, General Secretary of Association of Television Channel Owners Shykh Seraj, and presidents of two factions of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Shaukat Mahmood will participate in the discussion. Editor of Bangla daily Samakal Golam Sarwar, also the president of Editors' Council, will preside over the event while Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star, will give the introductory speech.
