Rail communications on Dhaka-Chittagong and Chittagong-Sylhet routes were restored after more than 14 hours of disruption following a train derailment in Feni Sadar upazila today.

Train service resumed around 4:50pm after two rescue trains managed to salvage the four compartments that derailed near Fazilpur Muhuri bridge, Rakhal Chandra Nath, stationmaster of Fazilpur Railway Station.

The bogies of the Dhaka-bound train from Chittagong veered off the tracks around 2:30am, halting train services on Dhaka-Chittagong, Chittagong Sylhet and Chittagong-Chandpur routes, the stationmaster added.

Two Chittagong-bound trains from Dhaka -- Dhaka Mail and Turna Nishitha – and Sylhet-bound Jalalabad Express from Chittagong, which got stuck at different railway stations following the accident, left for its destinations after the service resumed, he said.
