Defence delaying case proceedings
Defence lawyers are raising irrelevant questions to waste time and delay the proceedings of the Himu murder case, alleged the prosecution during cross-examination of a prosecution witness before a Chittagong court yesterday.
Ehtasumul Haque Kashfi, Himu's friend and vice-president of anti-drug organisation Shikar, was cross-examined for the third day yesterday.
At a hospital in Chittagong city, Kashfi had recorded Himu's description of how he was attacked.
Chittagong Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahidul Islam also fixed May 14 to continue cross-examination of Kashfi.
Kashfi is being cross-examined by lawyers of accused Shah Alam Tipu and Jahedul Islam Shaon, said Anupam Chakraborty, additional public prosecutor (PP).
“For three consecutive days, the defence lawyers have been asking similar and irrelevant questions to the witness like 'Whether Kashfi prays regularly or not' and 'How many times he prays',” said Anupam Chakraborty, adding they are asking such questions to delay the judicial proceedings.
Himadri Majumdar Himu, an A-level student of Summerfield School and College, was brutally beaten, attacked by dogs which were unleashed upon him and then he was pushed off from the fourth floor of a building in Panchlaish of Chittagong on April 27, 2012.
Aside from Tipu and Shaon, the other accused are Junaid Ahmed Riad, Shahadat Hossain Shaju and Mahboob Ali Khan Danny.
