Database on workers, factories launched
The labour and employment ministry yesterday launched a database on factories and workers to meet a requirement to win back trade privileges from the United States.
Mujibul Haque Chunnu, state minister for labour and employment, inaugurated the database at the secretariat in Dhaka.
Users can access the database by logging into dife.gov.bd.
Some mistakes could be found in the database primarily, which will gradually be corrected, Mikail Shipar, labour secretary, said at the launching ceremony.
The information related to the number of factories and workers, brief history of the factories like whether there had been any fire incident or not could be found in the database, Shipar said.
Bangladesh has moved one step forward with the launch of the database to regain the Generalised System of Preferences suspended by the US in June last year, he said.
The database has incorporated information about 3,498 garment factories. It will be updated periodically.
