Police detained Bashir Ullah, general secretary of Hefajat-e-Islam of Narayanganj district unit, last night in connection with violence in Narayanganj during the March 28 hartal enforced by the outfit.
Bashir was detained from an under-construction building in Sanarpar London Market area of Narayanganj Sadar upazila last night, said Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj Police Station.
"Bashir Ullah led the March 28 hartal called by Hefajat. But he is not included in any case out of the six filed over violence during the hartal in Narayanganj. Details will be given later," said the OC.
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) filed six cases with Siddhirganj Police Station for violence and sabotages on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways during the countrywide hartal called by Hefazat-e-Islam.
Twenty-two people, including BNP and Hefajat men, have been arrested so far in the cases.
