Murder accused goes missing from Chattogram central jail
An accused in a murder case went missing from Chattogam Central Jail today.
The prisoner, Farhad Hossain Rubel, is an accused in a murder case filed with Sadarghat Police Station of Chattogram city, a UNB report said.
Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, jail super, filed a GD with Kotwali Police Station around 12pm, said Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of the station.
"We are investigating the matter," said the OC.
Farhad had been in jail since February 9, reports our correspondent quoting the OC.
According to police sources, Farhad stabbed a scrap seller named Abul Kalam Abu on his chest on February 5 at the SRB Rail Gate area of Sadarghat Police Station. Abul later died.
Kalam's mother Morzina Begum filed a case with the Sadarghat Police Station after which Farhad was arrested.
The absence of the prisoner came to the notice of the jail authorities while they were counting the number of prisoners, jail sources said.
Farhad was an inmate of the "punishment ward" of Karnaphuli Bhaban in the jail.
