Man stabbed to death during clash in Ctg

Locals say the clash was between two rival BCL factions

A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death in a clash between two groups in Bayezid Bostami area of Chattogram city tonight.

The deceased was identified as Md Emon, son of Nur Kashem of Muktijoddha Colony in the Bayezid Bostami area, said Shah Alam, assistant commissioner (Bayezid Bostami Zone) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

Locals said the two groups were different factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

However, BCL Chattogram city unit General Secretary Zakaria Dastagir told The Daily Star that the deceased did not hold any post in any unit of BCL and claimed that the clash was not for political reasons but to establish supremacy in the area over occupying a piece of land.

Nurul Azim Rony, former general secretary of BCL Chattogram city unit, said Emon was a member of Bayezid Bostami thana BCL rival's convening committee.

AC Shah Alam said the clash occurred at Muktijoddha Colony intersection around 8:30pm between Pistol Sohel gang and Ali gang.

Emon, a member of the Pistol Sohel gang, was stabbed by his rivals during the clash, our Chattogram correspondent reports, quoting the police official.

He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead, added the AC.

Sub-Inspector Iqbal Hossain of Bayezid Bostami Police Station said they are investigating the incident. No one was arrested and no case had been filed till the time of filing of this report.
