Journalist sent to jail under DSA case in Khulna
A Khulna court today sent a local journalist to jail in a case filed under the controversial Digital Security Act (DSA).
Shahidul Islam, judge of Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 sent journalist MA Sabur Rana, Rampal correspondent of the Daily Loksomaj and also the president of Rampal Press Club, to jail after rejecting his bail petition, reports our Khulna correspondent.
On April 20, Talukdar Abdul Khalek, mayor of Khulna City Corporation filed a case against journalists—MA Sabur Rana and Abu Tayub Munshi, Khulna correspondent of NTV---under Digital Security Act for posting statuses on their personal Facebook accounts against the mayor.
Journalist Abu Toyub was arrested on the very night of filing the case and got bail recently after serving 21 days in jail.
Today, journalist MA Sabur Rana appeared before the court to seek bail and the court sent him to jail after rejecting his bail petition, Rana's lawyer Advocate Belal Hossain said.
The lawyer said they will seek bail from the High Court.
