Five drug traffickers arrested with 77,000 yaba tablets
Rapid Action Battalion arrested five members of a drug trafficking ring from the capital's Basila area with 77,000 yaba tablets on Tuesday.
Rab-2 Commanding Officer Lt Col Imran Ullah Sarkar disclosed the matter at a press briefing at the elite force's media centre in Karwan Bazar today.
The arrestees are Tarikul Islam (23), Sinbad (23), Mim Mia (22), Emon (19), and Monir (28).
Disguised as members of the wandering Bede community, they used to travel from one place to another, carrying stoves and cooking utensils, the Rab official said.
To avoid suspicion, they used to sell various ornaments and accessories such as bangles, hair ribbons, children's belts, chains, safety pins, rings, etc.
But inside their stoves, they carried yaba tablets and to dodge law enforcement, they used to avoid the highway from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka.
Acting on a tip, Rab conducted a drive in the capital's Basila area in Mohammadpur and arrested them with 77,000 yaba tablets.
The Rab official said based on the intelligence information, the elite force came to know that a group of drug traffickers was coming to Basila bridge area of Mohammadpur through the Buriganga river with a large consignment of yaba.
"Law enforcement agencies has never seen such a tactic. The route they were using is also new. They didn't use the highway to bring yaba from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka," the Rab CO said.
The elite force recovered cooking pots, buckets, display racks, and various imitation jewellery from their possession.
The filing of a case case is underway to be filed against them.
