Case filed against local AL leader in Bandarban's Lama for raping Mro woman
A local Awami League leader in Lama upazila of Bandarban has allegedly raped a young woman from the Mro community.
The victim's father filed a case against Mahbubur Rahman Zahid alias Kabir (35) with Lama Police Station yesterday, said Ashraful Alam, sub-inspector of the police station, today.
Kabir is publicity and publication secretary of Rupshipara union unit of Awami League, said Lama upazila unit AL vice-president Mostofa Kamal.
Quoting the case statement, Mizanur Rahman, officer-in charge of Lama Police Station, said Kabir had developed a relationship with the victim and raped her on numerous occasions.
The victim is now pregnant, the OC quoted the case statement as saying.
She was sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital today for medical test, said the police official.
Quoting the victim's family members, local ward member Md Mannan said, "The rapist threatened the young woman that he'd kill her if she tells anyone about the rape."
Seeking anonymity, a relative of the victim told this correspondent that Kabir fled the area with the help of a local public representative after the case was filed.
"We are trying to arrest Kabir," OC Mizanur Rahman told our Bandarban correspondent.
