Businessman stabbed to death in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area last night
A man who was stabbed to death by unidentified people near High Court in Dhaka last night was identified as one Hamidul Islam.
He ran a cable operator business. Hamidul's brother Wahidul Islam identified the body at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue this morning.
Hamidul, also general secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Shahbagh thana unit), used to live with his family in Segunbagicha.
He was stabbed on his left leg and hand around 9:30pm yesterday, leaving him critically injured and was declared dead after a van puller took him to DMCH.
Police and family members primarily suspected that muggers stabbed him to death.
Sadek Mia, who looks after three of Hamidul's flats in old Dhaka's Siddique Bazar, said he met Hamidul around 8:00pm near High Court and gave him rent amounting Tk 12,000.
"After having tea, Hamidul was seen walking toward his house," he added.
As he did not return home last night, his family members looked for him in all possible places including DMCH, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
The victim's son filed a case accusing unnamed people with Shahbagh Police Station, said Sub-Inspector Mansur Ahmed of Shahbagh Police Station.
No one has been arrested yet, he added.
