14 girls escape from Gazipur safe home, 7 detained

Fourteen young women and girls escaped from the government-run safe home at Mogorkhal in Gazipur city last night.

However, police managed to detain seven of them -- aged 15-25 years -- from Joydevpur Railway Station around 2:30am today, our Gazipur correspondent reports.

Confirming the incident, Gazipur District Women Affairs Officer Shahnaj Akhter said police are trying to detain others.

Bason Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Faroque said that some day labourers have been working to renovate the grills and building of the safe home.

They might have fled with the help of the workers, the OC said.
