12 Rohingyas who fled Bhasan Char held in Noakhali
Twelve Rohingyas who fled Bhasan Char were detained from Companyganj upazila of Noakhali this morning.
The detainees left Bhasan Char with the help of a local broker and tried to return to Cox's Bazar, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting police.
Md Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of Companyganj Police Station, said locals caught the 12 Rohingyas from Char Elahi-Dakhkhin Ghat area around 10am and took them to the police station.
The inspector said the process to file a case in this regard is underway. The Rohingyas will be produced before court.
Quoting the detained Rohingyas, inspector Azad also said they fled Bhasan Char last night to return to Cox's Bazar refugee camp on a boat but the boatman dropped them at Char Elahi ghat in the early hours of today.
Md Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhasan Char Police Station, said the detained Rohingyas were residents of cluster no 24 of Bhasan Char camp. "In addition to the detainees, more Rohingyas have fled. Police are working over the matter," said the OC.
