Vote rigging at Comilla station, polling suspended
Voting at a polling station in Comilla suspended for stamping ballot papers in favour of Awami League candidate hours before the fourth phase of union parishad election began this morning.
Six people including the presiding officer were detained in connection with the rigging at Jugirhat Government Primary School centre at Munshirhat union in Chouddagram upazila, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
A group stamped around 1,000 ballots in favour of AL chairman candidate Md Mahfuz Alam around 1:30am today, district election officer Rashedul Islam told the daily.
On information, a team led by the election officer rushed to the scene, detained six persons and suspended voting at the centre.
