Textbooks seized, 4 held
Detective Branch (DB) of police on Sunday night detained four people including the director of a private-run school on charge of storing in a shop some 1,500 government textbooks meant for free distribution.
The books were scheduled to be distributed among the school students on the New Year yesterday.
On information, a DB team raided a grocery shop at Kalikapur in Mymensingh Sadar upazila around 11:00pm on Sunday and detained shop owner Md Israfil for interrogation, said Sub-inspector (SI) Porimol Chandra Das of DB, Mymensingh.
Police seized some 1,500 copies of textbooks of classes VI to X, said the SI.
Md Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh DB, said local Provat Sena Model School managed the books from another school of the locality and stored those at the grocery shop.
Later, police detained Md Al Amin, director of the school, its headmaster Jahangir Alam Ratan, and assistant headmaster Saddam Hossain.
The detainees were being interrogated at the DB office as of filing this report yesterday.
