Sylhet nursing instt shut as crack found at hostel
Female students of the nursing institute attached to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College started vacating their hostel this morning two days after the authorities shut the institute due to cracks that developed on the building following an earthquake.
At least 100 cracks were developed on the floor of the southern part balconies of the four-storey building following the earthquake that jolted the country on Wednesday, our Moulavibazar correspondent reports quoting Shilpi Chakrabarti, principal of the college.
The authorities took the decision as the building was the only residence for at least 375 female students, the correspondent said.
The building has been used as students’ residence since 1986, he said.
More than 60 people were slightly hurt, mostly while rushing out of buildings in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet, after a powerful earthquake of 6.9 magnitude struck Myanmar and jolted Bangladesh Wednesday night.
