Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has underscored the need for stopping the sources of terrorist financing to address the root causes of the extremism.
“Poverty will have to be alleviated first if we want to eliminate extremism. Bangladesh Bank is working on it,” the speaker said today.
Whiling addressing a two-day long “National Conference on Countering Violent Extremism-2019” at Bashundhara Convention Centre in Dhaka, Shirin Sharmin said, “No one is born as an extremist but the situation makes them stray.”
Claiming that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a zero-tolerance policy against extremism, the speaker said the extremism by no means is accepted anywhere in the world.
Such type of extremism is identified as a risk and thus the United Nations has undertaken a programme against it, she said.
