Stalkers stab schoolgirl in Kishoreganj, one arrested
A schoolgirl was stabbed by stalkers in Kishreganj Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The victim, Smriti Akhtar, 15, is a Class X student of Nandala Asmuddin High School in the upazila. Smriti came under attack while she was going to the school to appear in the SSC test examinations at around 9:45am.
Quoting locals and family sources, police said Md Touhid, 21, son of Md Humayun of the village, had been stalking Smriti, daughter of late Helal Uddin of Ponkolima village in the upazila, for long.
As he was refused by the girl repeatedly, Touhid, a garment worker in Gazipur, and his accomplices waylaid the girl on her way to school. At one stage, Touhid started stabbing the girl with a sharp weapon, leaving her seriously injured, said police.
Hearing Smriti's screams, locals rushed to the spot and took the girl to Kishoreganj General Hospital. Later, the doctors referred her to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) as her condition deteriorated, police said.
Dr Md Zakir Hossain, emergency medical officer at MMCH, said the girl sustained five stab injuries on her neck and upper part of the left hand.
Police detained one Mamun, 22, an accomplice of Touhid, for his alleged involvement in the incident. No case was lodged with the police station concerned as of writing of this report at 4:30pm.
