Spurious liquor kills one
A trader died and five others fell seriously ill after taking rectified spirit in Monirampur upazila headquarters of Jessore district on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Mona Dutta, 30, son of Monilal Dutta of Hakoba village of the upazila. He was a betel trader.
The victim's family said Mona along with five others took spurious liquor at a shop owned by Sanjit Kundu at Monirampur Bazar and fell sick around 11:00pm. Later, he was sent to the upazila health complex where the doctor declared him dead.
Gautam Chakraborty, councillor of Monirampur municipality, said Sanjit Kundu, Abdul Aziz and three others are taking treatment secretly to avoid police.
