Spurious liquor kills 3 in Gaibandha

Three people died after having spurious liquor at Bhagobanpur village in Palashbari upazila yesterday and the day before.

The deceased are Moklal Rabi Das, 35, of the village, and his two relatives, Rabi Lal Das, 45, of Sutrapur area in Bogra town, and Bhasani Rabi Das, 40, of Shapla Chatter area in Rangpur town.

Around 10/12 relatives, who came to attend the marriage ceremony of one Nila Rani Das, daughter of Mohanlal Rabi Das, of the village, consumed locally made liquor on Saturday night and fell sick within the next few hours, Officer in-Charge Mojibar Rahman of Palashbari Police Station said, quoting the victims' family members.

Moklal died on way to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex on Sunday morning, while Rabi died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra the same day.

Bhasani Rabi Das, who was undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital,

died yesterday.

Police came to know the matter yesterday as the family members of the victims tried to cover up the incident, the OC added.
