Sirajganj journo killing: Charge pressed against Shahzadpur mayor
Police today pressed charges against Shahzadpur municipality mayor Halimul Haque Miru and 37 others in a case filed for killing journalist Abdul Hakim Shimil Shimul in Sirajganj.
Shimul, a local correspondent of Daily Samakal, was shot by Miru during a factional clash of ruling Awami League in the upazila town on February 2. He succumbed to his injury on the way to Dhaka a day into the clash.
Investigation Officer Monirul Islam submitted the charge sheet before the court of Shahzadpur senior judicial magistrate this afternoon, said Khaza Golam Kibria, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur Police Station.
Miru’s brother Habibul Haque Mintu, AL activist Nasir Uddin are among the accused.
Police have arrested 14 accused including Miru and his brother since the case was filed over the murder, the police official said. Victim’s wife Nurunnahar Begum filed a case with Shahzadpur Police Station following the death of her husband.
