Schools run by proxy!
Payment of salaries of the teachers of five government primary schools in Sundarganj upazila has been suspended on charge of running the institutions by proxy for long.
The teachers allegedly engaged unqualified teachers on their behalf to teach in the primary schools.
Upazila Education Department (UED) issued the suspension order for such gross negligence to duty through a letter signed by Sundarganj Upazila Education Officer Harun-ur-Rashid on Thursday.
The letter says that the salaries of the teachers of those government schools will be withheld until further order.
The schools are in remote Teesta river basin villages Bochagari, Char Bhati-Burail, Bhati Burail, Latsala and Kuriyar Par.
Earlier, local people as well as many guardians submitted several complaints to UED against the teachers of those five schools.
Most of the teachers posted in remote char areas are reluctant to attend their schools, UEO Harun-ur-Rashid said, adding, instead they engage unqualified people to take classes in exchange of monthly salaries.
Such illegal practice and irregularities are also destroying the standard of education in the char areas, the UEO said.
Most of the teachers do not attend their schools regularly for lack of communication facilities, he further said.
