Sale of rice for poor suspended

Local administration in Jessore district yesterday suspended selling rice allocated for ultra poor bringing charge of corruption against dealers.

Keshabpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharif Ryhan Kabir confirmed the incident.

Following corruption complaints filed against the dealers, the upazila administration suspended selling rice, he said.

State minister for public administration was also informed about issuing cards to those who are not entitled for the rice, he added.

Selling of rice for Tk 10 per kilogram will be started soon after preparing fresh lists of beneficiaries, said the UNO.
