Robbers kill driver, take away goods-laden truck

A gang of robbers took away a goods-laden truck after killing the driver and injuring the helper at Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Jahangir Hossain, 45, son of Abul Hossain of Kumuria village of Bogra district.

Md Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahjadpur Police Station, said a gang of four robbers in guise of passengers boarded the Pabna-bound truck from Chandura area of Gazipur district on Wednesday night.

When the truck reached Baghabari Bridge in Shahjadpur early yesterday, the gang strangled trucker Jahangir, injured his helper Md Hasan and took the control of the truck.

The robbers dumped Jahangir's body and injured Hasan in Binnabari area of  the upazila early Thursday and took away the truck, the OC said.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Helper Hasan is undergoing treatment at Shahjadpur Upazila Health Complex , the OC added.

Contacted, OC  Rezaul Karim said law enforcers are raiding different areas of the district to recover the truck and arrest the robbers.
