Road broken, now LGED officials realise
The 1.5 km Daulatpur-Kaltamari road has been in very bad shape for the last two years, but Kushtia Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) did not repair it in spite of the people's demand.
Faced with an accident on Thursday, LGED officials now realise the gravity of the problem, locals said.
Villagers said an LGED truck loaded with materials for repairing another road got trapped in the knee-deep potholes on Thursday afternoon.
“What will the LGED authorities say now?” asked Habibur Rahman of the village.
Kushtia LGED Executive Engineer ASM Shahedur Rahman said the road was built in 2012, and the union parishad was doing the maintenance works. The road is strewn with two to three feet deep potholes, he said.
“We will start repair work soon,” he added.
