Retaining wall of road collapses

A retaining wall of a road under construction with funds from Padma Bridge project in Louhajang has collapsed 10 days into its building as 'low quality' materials were used.

Munshiganj Local Government Engineering Department is implementing the 2.5 kilometre road from Khan Bari-Kalirkhil-Mawa at a cost of Tk 2.5 crore. Contracting firm Amir Mahmud and Co has been building the road.

The retaining wall at Pukur Par adjacent to the road running through Kazi Bari collapsed within 10 days of its construction.  Another retaining wall at the Pukur Par adjacent to Hawlader Bari has also tilted. The work of the project is scheduled to be completed by July 30.

Local people expressed their indignation saying such irregularity in Padma Bridge project cannot be accepted. They demanded exemplary punishment to the persons responsible for the irregularities.

Louhajang Upazila Engineer Md Shafiqul Ahsan said, there is nothing to be worried about and it will be repaired properly.
