Settle police cases fast
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday stressed the need for building a more “people-friendly” police force and instructed the authorities concerned to dispose of cases properly and on time to ensure quick justice.
“Being imbued with patriotism, you will have to work in order to become more people-friendly and create confidence among the people,” she said while addressing senior police officials on the occasion of Police Week-2019 at her office.
The PM said cases were not being resolved on time and there was lack of police personnel who conduct those cases.
“So you'll have to play a special role in monitoring this properly and completing the cases quickly… you should also have a team to look into the fate of the cases.”
She said cases remain pending in courts for years which needed engagement of government officials and lawyers.
Terming terrorism and militancy a global problem, Hasina said her government had been able to control the two menaces. “But we will have to continue our drive against militancy and terrorism and we should have a strategy to thwart any possible militant attack.”
About the framing of the Digital Security Act, the PM said many people were speaking against the law. “But the reality is that the law has been enacted to ensure security of the innocent and common people and protect their human rights.”
She said the law was helping the police in investigating and filing cases as well as identifying and arresting criminals involved in cyber crimes.
The PM also vowed to continue the government's fight against corruption.
She stressed on increasing the members of the specialised police force to guard mega projects. The PM also laid importance on proper training of policemen as her government was setting up 100 special economic zones where specialised industrial police would be deployed.
She also put emphasis on special training programmes for different units of the police, including river police, airport police and tourism police.
The PM thanked the policemen for maintaining peaceful atmosphere which was imperative for the country's economic development.
She called upon the police personnel to work with dedication and utmost sincerity for turning Bangladesh into a developed and prosperous country.
About increasing the police's manpower, she said more manpower would be added to its various units so that the people could get their desired services.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary and PM's Principal Secretary Nojibur Rahman were present at the programme, among others.
