Pause mobile banking in Cox’s Bazar: Rab
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has sought a temporary halt to mobile banking services in Cox’s Bazar in the process of anti-narcotics crackdown in the region.
Rab’s Director General Benazir Ahmed said that chunks of money are being transacted in Cox’s Bazar area through mobile banking only for drug purpose.
“Only 23 lakh people live in Cox’s Bazar with no major industries despite this, the huge amount of money is being transacted in the area,” he said.
“We are suspecting that the money is being used only for drug purpose,” Benazir said at the inaugural of an anti-narcotics TVC this afternoon.
The Rab chief proposed to stop all sorts of mobile banking services in Cox’s Bazar for at least two months on pilot basis to assess the impact in this regard.
