Patuakhali road in bad shape
The 8-km-long road in Kalapara upazila is in a bad shape, causing immense sufferings to thousands of people.
No steps were taken to repair the road since its construction in 2007-2008 fiscal year, said locals.
Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) built the road from Londa bazar to Nomorhat in Dhankhali union to ease communication with the upazila headquarters and the district town, said Halim Payda, a resident of Hafejpayda village.
No vehicles ply the road that has become unfit for use due to removal of its seal coat (top portion of the road), he said.
Huge potholes have developed on the whole road and the situation worsens in monsoon, when the potholes are filled with rainwater, said Md Zafor, driver of nosimon (three-wheeler).
Former union parisahd (UP) member Md Harun Madbar said school going children are the worst sufferers due to the situation.
Farmer Md Hanif said, “We cannot carry our products to bazars for sale as the road has become unfit for use.”
Despite repeated pleas, the authorities are yet to take any steps to repair the road, said UP Chairman Abdul Latif Gazi.
